PSD problem
I started up my 2000 350 PSD the other day and drove it. I got about a mile down the road and the truck seemd to shut down just for a split second then restart on it's own. When it did, the check engine light illuminated along with the water in fuel light and the wait to start light. At first I thought it was my imagination but it did it 3 more times before I could get it turned around and back home. The next day it started fine, idled for a minute, then did the same thing. It ran a few minutes more then died but restarted imediately. After restart it romped briefly then died. It restrted OK again. I am afraid to take in out of the driveway now. Any thoughts?

I don't know much, but I've learned that wierd electrical type of issues usually stem from ground problems. Try cleaning the battery terminals and connectors and try finding the engine block ground connections and cleaning them and check the wires for wear and frays and feel them to see if they feel like they might be broken inside the sheathing. Oh, and good luck.

Sounds like a cps issue, they are well know for failing. Most people keep a spare in the glove box. The best place to get one is ebay, in a ford package for about 60 bucks shipped but i think they are at least double that from the stealership. The parts store brand ones are know to fail also.

If your Water In Fuel Light is coming on you may have a clogged fuel filter, which will make your truck run like crap. I'd change the filter right away and then see how it drives after that. If the filter change doesn't help I'd say change the CPS.

You might want to post this problem in the 7.3 forum and give one of the experts a shot at it.
Since you are seeing the wait to start, water in fuel and check engine lights all at the same time, it sounds more like an electrical problem causing a computer reset.

Sounds like your CPS is going bad. The computer uses the CPS signal to fire the injectors. A bad or faulty CPS will confuse the computer and a truck would have the symptoms you are having. When the CPS quits, so does your truck.

CPS is what I was figuring too. I just change all of the filters just before winter so I do not think that is the problem. But...........could it be the fuel pump?

Nope. If it's the fuel pump it will start to chug and gasp. A CPS will cut out and cut back in. Go to the 99-03 PSD section and browse until you see a CPS related thread. Lots of info there.
