I am still looking for headers. The Doug Thorley Headers for my 1995 F350, 4 x 4 Automatic are really expensive. I have leaned towards the Gibsons (file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Bill/Desktop/460~7.5l.htm). Those seem nice dont they? Whats the difference bewtween those and the Doug Thorleys? O a;sp jabe been looking for Throttle Body(http://www.performancecenter.com/pro...350/460%7E7.5l) That seems like a very nice one. And finally, is there such thing as a Performance Intake Manifold for this truck? The motor is 1997 46o EFI No air injection. So, I want to be able to shove more air into this motor. Its really powerful and fast right now with just the cold air intake and the high flow cat, and 40 series single in dual outlet exhaust.
Check out Gale Banks exhaust it really wakes up the 460. You will gain a lot of performance and fuel mileage. When I can afford to buy, it is going to be put on.
yes, the banks truck header for the truck and motorhome are the same. i had to replace a set on a customers f350, and banmks was helpful with id ing them. the y pipe that banks uses on the mh is different than the trucks, but it sure looks the same. this ebayer has had these listed since late november with no luck on selling them. a set of thorleys are close to the same price new with free shipping. he originally started at 600 and now has them down to 300. offer him 200 and see if he will take it. the listing fees have got to be killing him.
You sure these would fit? I talked to banks yesterday, they said the motorhome headers are extra long cuz theres more room? Will these be too long for my truck? Will there bea possibility of them breaking while off road?
i talked to banks yesterday, they said the motorhome headers were longer than the F350 ones because theres more room for them. You sure these would fit, if they dont it be sad if they didnt. Would these break if i went off roading with them?
gotta love banks ssupport.. it is almost as good as the new "Doug Thorley". i replaced a set, as was told they were the same, looked and fit the same. maybe banks had made changes in the last few years.. as i recall, the trucks were a real nightmare to install. the v10 were not that hard, but the v8's were a nightmare. make sure you have the mini 90's starter, as the original unit is to close to the large starter and fry rather rapidly.
try to get some schematics of the headers and check clearences. i ran into the problem in running the full length in my Oshkosh chassis, and ended up using the Thorley 216y2 headers. Banks was vague on fitment, but was very supportive on sending me measurements on headers..
Whats the difference bewtween those and the Doug Thorleys?
well the thorleys are a tri y and the gibson are 4-1. with long tubes, 4-1 works good for low end. in short tubes like the gibsons, they do better in the top end. for towing at lower rpm's i would really recommend thorleys. banks with long tubes work great, better flanges than the thorleys. dont call Thorleys tech support!!!!
since the change over, thorley support has gone to the pits. thorley nickel plated "glow", this is the nickel plating not the pipes. a local muffler shop dared me to call and give a talk. they tried to tell me that with no egr or AIR that my exhaust was to "hot". was rather funny.
Okay, I like to race, I mean open this beast right up. What I am going to do is get a set of headers, and run the biggest pipe I can behind the right rear wheel. Whats the biggest pipe I can use after the headers? 3 inche, four, or 5 inch? So, will those Gibsons do the trick? I know there shorties, but whats the difference? I have been looking and contimplating which ones to get for 5 months, and now I just want to get some so it can be louder and breathe. Which headers are best for my crazy gas slamming need for speed and power? I love slamming the gas hearing that 460 hum, the cold air intake whistlening, and that 40 series muffler screaming reflecting off of peoples car as I pass them going 90 mph pass them, I want to be meaner and louder.
Hooker makes a super comp header for our trucks with--> 1 7/8 primary with 3 in. collectors. That is the one I would love to have, but it says in the description that you can only have a auto and I want to possibly convert to a ZF5 one day!?
