1950 ford body needs chassis
Our intention is not to restore it, but to make it driveable.
The brakes are drum brakes, and we want
to make it safer and easier to drive and maintain.
We want to put the body of our 1950 Ford truck onto another frame (newer engine, etc.), something with disk brakes, automatic transmission (if possible) and power steering.
1. Do you have any suggestions as to what it would fit on?
what are the dimensions needed?
2. Would the 1950 chassis and parts be sellable to someone who's
into restoration, and if so, how do you recommend we go about connecting with them?
Is there someone near Oracle, AZ, (where truck is) who might be interested?
Thank you. We are novices at this, so any advice is welcome.
wheel base
tread width
front overhang
rear overhang
location of cab mounts relative to frame width
floor of box height, etc
I have seen a F-1 on a Ranger chassis. Rangers come in a
variety of wheel bases depending on the model year. 108-127"
They all have disc front brakes. Some 90 and newer have 8.8 rear axles. Tread widths vary slightly by model year, 53-57". There are a lot of them out there, 200-400 thousand a year for 19 years and about 1/3 are 4x4 models. One disadvantage is that the frame kicks up after the cab where as the F-1 frame is probably pretty flat front to rear. There are a lot of engine conversion kits available to swap in a 302 motor.
Check the classifieds. My truck is listed there now.

I also have available a 1975 F100 frame shortened and set up to accept a '50. (It sat too high, so I parked it and went with the Ranger)
