I've been looking for a newer truck to replace the one in my sig due to rust and small accident damage. I recently found a 95 psd thats in my price range with everything i want but it has 280k miles on it. The truck is from georgia so no rust, no dents, interior great shape(has dirty carpet thou), overall a well taken care of truck. blue book is $2k more than the asking price and nada is almost double the asking price. I plan to keep it for a long time.
Is the mileage too high? (if so,what do you consider too high)?
What parts should be nearing the end of there life(if they were still original)?
Would you choose a higher mileage PSD or a lower mileage IDI?
Are there any good books on the PSD?
Is the mileage too high? (if so,what do you consider too high)? over 600,000
What parts should be nearing the end of there life(if they were still original)? starter, bushings, alternator, shocks, balljoints, tierods, injectors. i am sure some of this has been changed but could need it now or in another 100,000.

thats a pretty good deal on a truck. these trucks run a long time. some guys have bought there truck with over 300k and threw some serious hp mods at them and they are fine.
it looks good, if it runs pretty good and clean and you have a little know how and motivation you can usually keep it in good shape, there is a guy on here with over 430 on his and still has stock exhaust amongst other things. I would plan on spendinh a little cash, $500 or so replacing some common problem items that will save heart ache later
stick with the psd they are a heavier built engine
I would do the GP's with ZD-11 motocraft part possible valve cover gaskets and under valve cover wiring depending on the look of it, GP relay unless it is pretty much new and the CPS. There is a sponsor that sells a GP kit comes with plugs valve cover gaskets (which have wiring plugs through them if you didn't know) and under valve cover wiring for 250 or so.) CPS 50-75 shipped from ebay and then oil and filter changes head to tow. differentials tranny transfer case. Gives you a good starting point with your truck. When you look at that stuff you may determine different, but you are the only one that can make that call. I love my psd
From the pictures I take it that you are buying from an individual. Ask about the maintenance history, what has been replaced/repaired (glow plugs, valve cover gaskets, under valve cover gaskets, etc.) any paperwork to go with this, how often he had the oil changed, how often he had the fuel filter changed, has he replaced the clutch and if so with another DMF or a SMF, how often he checked the anitfreeze for additive, when was the tranny fluid cahnged, when was the differential fluids changed.
All said and done, if it was me, I'd be driving it home right now, good looking truck.
It's a good thing you parked it in front of the hedge so we can't see the tag. I'd be running that tag and calling the owner to buy it. j/k. Definitely get it. It is a GREAT truck and kinda cheap. BTW, the mileage is not high. My son bought his 96 with 375k out of Texas for 5,000 and I bought my 97 with 285k out of Texas for 6,000. These trucks last a long time. No rust is more important than low miles with these babies.
