Anybody have manual locking hubs on their 6.0L? I have a pair of manual worn hubs that im going to throw on. Seeing that one wont unlock and sends a vibration through the truck. Went to the dealer and said that they are $500(Cdn) a piece to replace. I got both worn hubs for $300.
I have the manual hubs on my 6.oh. I Like them and was happy to have them after all of the problems I have had in the past with auto locking hubs on my other vehicles. For me, if you're going to be relying on 4wd a lot (and i do) manual hubs are the best bet for you.
I would have to agree. I have had limited use of my 4x4 so far this year, but the first snowstorm we had I was having trouble with the left front hub not engaging. Once I turned the hub-lock manually instead, it worked fine. If my hubs ever fail completely or if I have alot of problems I will install manual hubs instead.
Ok, I installed the worn hubs and all I can say is that I'm in love. Took a total of 10 min to install. 2 min to pull out the factory and 8 min to install the aftermarket ones. My front right hub would not unlock. After taking it apart, I found that it was dry as a bone. A crack in the casing which prob let sand in and water. I have been up to the doors in water a couple of times pulling a 20,000 pound tank. Ahhhh, cant wait untill spring.
Reidicus when u were getting that vibration was your selector switch in 2 or 4 wheel drive. I am getting 1 heck of a vibration when i put my selector into 4 wheel...Just wondering ...thx
My front right hub was dry as a bone and was siezed on the inside. Could still turn the **** but would not unlock the front axle. So I had one front axle spinning constantly. Didnt matter if it was in 4wd or 2wd. I get a little vibrations when accelerating in 4wd. Thats about it.
Had a 99 with the auto hubs and selector on the dash. Worked great until 45,000 then would take tons of work to get it out of 4Low. Had a few friends with the auto stuff also have a bunch of problems. Most often these problems show up when you need 4x4 to work. Ends up being a bad day. Just bought an 06, found the only PSD on the lot with factory manual shift and manual hubs. Now I know that when I need 4x4 it will kick in and stay in.
I had 4WD on the fly a couple of trucks ago, and my biggest problem was getting it to disengage from time to time. Now I only manual shift with manual hubs
I was hearing a clicking noise from my front end when turning a corner. I took my '03 FX4 in to get it checked. Sure enough, the tech said my front auto hub was locked up and engaged and had to be replaced. I never had any indication until I heard the noise. I had an extended warranty that covered it except for the decuctible, total bill was about $480. I asked if I could get the bearings serviced, the service advisor told me that they were sealed units. I read in my scheduled maintenance in the owner's manual something about greasing needle bearings or something like that? Have about 57,000 miles now.
