On The Road Again...
Make a long story short, I got a bad back injury doing some other stuff, and just wasn't able to work on my truck or anything. So boxed up the bits and towed it out to a mechanic I got a lotta respect for.
He was able to remove the trans without taking out the Y pipe, so that IS possible. Course, he has a lift and proper transmission jacks (and other mechanics around). Lot easier than laying up underneath the truck with 2 feet of clearance.
Also got an emissions inspection notice, so I asked him to replace the EGR valve that was bad cause I won't be able to do any wrenching on anything anytime soon. How he got that EGR valve out without busting the tube or anything is beyond me. The bolts weren't even recognizable anymore. Mad skillz...
Engine idles perfectly smooth now, and starts right up when hot. It was tough to start when I first got it a few months ago. Replaced IAC, coil pack, wires & plugs. That fixed all the cold start problems. Guess that EGR was open all the time? No more start problems, and seat of my pants says fuel consumption has gone down. Gonna have to track that to find out for sure.
Now I gotta replace the "Check Engine" light - it musta burned out from being on so long. Anybody know what type of bulb was used for that in '96 Rangers? I know it's a different bulb than all the others in the cluster. It's physically smaller... I was not able to look it up anywhere.
Hope you all have a happy & healthy New Year!
