I'm a believer this 350 lariat v10 has lot's of power. I could hardly hear the motor running tranny also shifts very smooth. How rare are these V10's when I was searching I could hardly find any. I'm glad I found this one.
Thanks. I didn't even have the truck for 1 hour and I've already put a scratch in the rear door. I backed into my address sign in my driveway. It's about a foot long I think it can be buffed out.
guessing by the name you used to have a 150. hard to believe how much bigger these trucks are. get used to parking in far ends of parking lots and having some drive thru's you can't squeeze in. oh and be careful the mirrors if you have the towing mirrors they are great for vision but stick out like dumbos ears. about the same height as mailbox's other SD on narrow streets ect. I just broke my first one after 3 years.
Sad the V10 isn't more popular. The dealers don't want them and don't push them. Now that you have one you might notice more than you thought out there though. I see V10s all the time now that I have one. I sure love mine.
You are correct, this engine is super smooth. If you don't look at the tach, you'd be tempted to crank her again. Folks don't realize what balance shafts can do, but many big foreign makes use them to quell vibrations in their V6's and those same make are lauded for silky smooth engines. Change the exhaust and you won't confuse a running and non-running engine due to the sound, but she is a smoooooooth runner! Everyone that rides in mine is surprised!
When I get around to changing the exhaust I'll be putting in a gibson supertruck. My son has one in his 05 4.6 F150 and it sounds awsome. Has anyone heard one on a V10 yet. BTW I'm sick of flowmaster everyone and there mother has one. There are other good exhaust systems out there. What do you guys have
Sick of Flowmaster or not, their 70 series big block sounds pretty damn good on the big 10! I would not personally spend the money on a complete system as you can have a muffler of choice installed and with custom pipes for much, much less. Don't expect the Gibson Supertruck, or anything else, to sound like anything you are familiar with in a V8. There is no comparison. When I got my truck a month and a half ago, I started a thread about true duals on the v10. I have true duals on my 05 F150 5.4 and "imitation" Flowmasters. I loooooooooove the sound. You can NOT get that sound on V10. I stayed with one in and two out on my muffler, 3" in and 2 1/2" out. She sounds great, especially with a warm start. But the sound . . . it ain't no V8.
BTW, if your scratch isn't too bad, try a little 1600 and then 2000+ sand paper, wet sand, high speed buff and then us a randon orbital buffer/waxer. I have used that combo on more than one occasion and you may find the scratched area smoother than the rest of the truck. Even if the scratch got past the clear coat, it will minimize it to the point only you know it is there.
Thanks for the tip on the scratch I'll try it asap. I also notice the tow hooks on the front were removed and the little fog lights where can I find them.
for a v10 flow master is the only way. this motor must have some baffling to run and sound good.
on my truck we tried 5 systems, mbrp came off in 3 days, it was the worst. some a week. then right back to the flow master 70. that sounded the best on it, some other guys have 40's and 50's saying almost the same as me.
i wish you luck man just this isn't a 90 deg fireing oder ,it;s 72 degs and is hard to getting sounding good.

Welcome to the BSEG club Joe... Merry Christmas... I hope you have years of enjoyment out of Ford's best kept secret...no wonder they are in the red...brain dead marketing IMO
I saw some nice crome tow hooks for your truck but dont remember where. Cant be to hard to find. I thaink Ford had them. Good luck and enjoy that V-10.
Welcome to the club Joe. The V10 power plant is the finest piece of Ford engineering in the past decade. I absolutely love my V10. I have never had any kind of diesel envy while owning my V10.
As far as exhaust goes. A chambered muffler is the way to go. I put the full Banks Powerpack on my truck. It came with Banks Dynoflow muffler. That muffler is a straight through design. It lasted 1 week. The only reason it took that long because it could not get a FM70 shipped any faster. The Fm70 sounds perfect. Granted, with headers and a unrestricted ypipe and increased exhaust diameter from stem to stern, my V10 is so unique sounding. Not many like it. I like the way it sounds. It does have a very funky V6 sounds at 1800-2400 rpm range. Other than that, it sounds great. At idle is sounds like a big block V8 and above 1500 rpm is sounds very aggressive ans tuned sounding.
Congrats on the truck. With proper care it will last and last. Mine is a 03 also and I just turned 72K miles. It still runs like day one.
