my 01 350 has developed a starting problem, it will start-up then stall immediately. i thought it was a clogged injector since if i "catch" the motor with the throttle i hear a click sound and the engine will warm up normal. i tried cleaner and the problem went away... now its back, could this be a case of bad fuel or do i have to dig deeper? i dont want to throw parts at this truck untill its fixed, any help is a big help, thanks in advance, Mike
no, but i think i will try that, the stalling comes and goes, it'll start rite up in the morn. and take a few tries 9 hours later and be fine the next morning,
after i initially get it running it always starts rite up, seems to be when it sits for a while , Mike
Please let me know how you fix your stalling problem. I'v hade the same problem as you two times now. Ill look into the IAC valve my self. The two times its happend have been far apart so I havent tryed to figure it out.
well i got my new IAC valve, does that black **** on it controll my idle speed?
when i get around to installing it do i need a gasket? as this one did not come with one. if that **** is the idle screw, do i just set the idle to what it is now, or the factory speed?
thanks, Mike
My V10 Excursion about a month ago would not idle at all. We were in Grand Junction, Co. moving at the time. It was about 10 degrees outside. It would not idle at all for about 30min. I limped it over to Western Slope Ford and picked up an IAC valve ($110 from Ford) and the second I fired it up in the parking lot (new IAC not installed yet) it idled perfect and has ever since. So I have an IAC sitting around. Owning two V10s of the same year I figure I will need it sooner or later. But I find it very strange that it would not idle at all for 30 min even after driving and now its fine. Go figure.
Oh and by the way you do need need a gasket, its sold seperate. I dont know anything about the black **** on it.
MadMedic20, the IAC was probably stuck, and came free. Now it's moving. Soon it won't
Mike, there is no idle speed control on the IAC - the "****" you see might be a breather.
There is a throttle-stop screw on the throttle body, which should NEVER need adjusting. Just make sure the throttle body is clean around the throttle plate, sometimes crud builds up and closes up that gap.
the computer totally controls the idle speed. If it can't get the idle speed it needs with the IAC, it advances/retards the timing to get what it needs. And then the problems start.
thanks to everyone for all the help/suggestions. last week i changed my fuel filter, if you haven't done it, do it. major improvement, even seemed to stop pinging and mileage also seemed to improve.
krewat, thank you for checking back on this post and setting me straight with the part
