I will be running a approx. 400 hp 302 in my 71 bronco and i was wondering if i should go with a vacum boost power brake booster or hydroboost since my motor will probably not make a lot of vacum, and who makes the best hydroboost kit, etc.
I run hydroboost in my '69..and its so incredibly better than any vaccuum-boost system that I wouldn't run anything else..regardless of what engine option I had.
my 01 Mustang GT has hydroboost brakes. They are awesome.....until you start doing doughnuts with the car. Then..i lost my power brakes AND power steering. that was a long 22 mile ride home. I let the car sit overnight and everything worked fine again. Anyway, go with the hydroboost.

Thanks
The question was where to get hydro boost. I have been interested in the same thing. I assume robbing a 01 Mustang would be a good starting poing.
Here's a few more that had hydroboost. Ford and Chevy diesel trucks, Chevy Astro vans, 70's Lincolns and Ford wagons.
I just pick up an Astro booster at a u-pull yard for 13 bucks!
hydroboost 'steals' pressure from the power steering system and stores that to use for assisting brake actuation. Very powerfull..and not sensitive to things like lumpy cams and such that can result in low vaccuum for vaccum-boosted brake operation.
'Hydro-vac' is an ancient term that was used in early early vaccuum-operated power brake systems - systems that differed little in function to todays vacuum boosted brakes. The booster was 'piston type' rather than diaphragm. The 'hydro' in 'hydro-vac' referred to the master cylinder/wheel cylinder part of the system...'hydraulic brakes' being still rather new when hydro-vac came out.
I thought hydro-vac was refering to the hydraulically assisted vacuum booster like bigger trucks used. A pedal operated master cylinder that feeds pressure to another master cylinder with booster. My 57 F600 boom truck and Austin Healey 3000 are both set up that way.

Sounds right. But the first truck I owned with 'hydro-vac' brakes (with that brand name on them) was a '37 White flatbed dually. There was no hydrauilc power on that thing..manual steering. It had the large piston-type vacuum booster connected to the master cylinder via a combining linkage with the brake pedal.
