I have a 99 EB and the Wife just loves it. Ok, I do too but we have moved from Phoenix to Albuquerque and we get snow here! It would be nice if we had 4WD in the Expy! My Dodge 2500 is very capable but doesn't have the room.
What is involved with adding 4WD? Can a transfer case be added to the existing tranny or would I need to swap out the whole gearbox? Is it worth the effort or would I be ahead of the game to simply get another one that already has 4X4?
We have around 150K miles on it and it runs like a top. I really don't want to borrow anyone elses problems by buying another vehicle.
Anybody ever done this? I am fully capable of doing the work but if it is too much work I'll find another way to go.
You'll be much better off to find a 4WD vehicle rather than trying to convert your 2WD.
You'd need the transfer case, front driveshaft, front axle, PCM, sensors, vacuum system, wiring and several other items I'm sure that I've forgotten in order to do the conversion.
Thanks for that, I do too. The old Exp was the best car I ever owned. The only problem it ever gave me was a bad coil that wouldn't throw a code to show me where it was at. If this "new" one is as good it will be very good indeed!
