I had a system put in my 2006 FX4 F150 sub/new head unit and new door speakers. After everything was installed my fog light switch is acting like a start/run switch. When my engine is off and the fog light switch is on the engine will not turn over all the lights and gauges work but the engine will not turn over. When the fog light switch is off the engine starts and stops just fine. However if I start it with the fog light switch off and then turn the fog light switch on while the engine is running everything works until I go to turn off my truck. When I try to turn off my truck I can turn the key switch all the way off and pull out the key and the engine will still run until I push in I turn off the fogs lights then the engine will stop. I took it back to the shop that installed it but they have no clue as to what is going on. I have a edge programmer that I forgot to program to stock before they disconnected the battery could this be it? I hope this all makes since and my problem is clearly stated. Any input would be appreciated.
Doesnt make any sense to me unless your programmer has something to do with it. Does it have remote start system on it of some kind? When it doesnt start does the theft light flash? When you say wont start will it crank but wont start or wont do anything?
I had a similar situation recently with a late model F150 that was recently in a collision. This was isolated to a shorted antilock brake module. When I disconnected the shorted module the vehicle would start up just fine and would shut off when you removed the key. When plugged back into the shorted module it would not crank up. If you started it unplugged and then plugged it in it would not shut down. I replaced the antilock module and the system worked fine. I attributed this to a network short circuit over the data link network. You may have a similar short somewhere in the installation of your new system.Or your programmer is somehow short circuiting the data network.

When I say it won't start I mean it won't turn over at all. All the gauges come on like oil pressure and head lights but it will not crank at all with the fog light switch on. All this started when I had this aftermarket system installed, I dont think its my programmer, don't know maybe it is. The audio shop is pretty much lost on this and I hate to take it to Ford and them tell me I voided the warrenty and all the cost is on me.
How many spots did this system require them to splice or tap into the original Ford wiring? Can't be over 3 or 4 can it? Tell them to disconnect these points(but not necessarily take out the whole system) and get back to square one to were the truck will work correctly. They should then be able to figure out what's going on.
I agree with HomerWinzlow, it's their problem, don't let them get away with not fixing it.
Head unit and subwoofer install doesn't normally need to splice into any Ford wiring, everything you need is typically available at the old head unit's harness. If I were you, I'd pull the plug on the new stereo and see if the symptoms go away. I look at the fog light switch wiring is on order also--it should not have changed, but that doesn't mean it didn't.
Other things that might be diagnostically useful could be pulling out the fog light relay and at the same time inpecting the relay area to be sure there isn't some odd strand of wire in there connecting things that ought not be connected. I'm just imagining something weird like the guy standing with the hood open, stripping your amp power cable, and flinging 1/2" strands of copper in the direction of the relay box. Unlikely, but then again your symptoms are also.
They found the problem, it turns out that he nicked a wire when he was drilling his hole through the fire wall to run the power to the amp. Everything works fin now the nick in the wire was grounding out and I guess it was the wire that contolled the fog lights. Thanks for all the help.
