Any one else done this??

I recently removed that stupid metal tray from under the rear bench seat.....What a pain in the butt..I figured 5 min and a torx bit is all it would take. Nope. Some stupid design they have using that one support on the drivers side..forcing you to break that stupid plastic piece covering the bolts and then you are left with a big hole! I just cut the end of that support piece off and put it back on with the bolt and ordered some new plastic covers and an hour later and a bunch of what the heck were they thinkings the project is done. Looks stock and now i have room underneath the seat for anything instead of a pointless cheesy metal tray thingy that no one probably ever uses.......sorry for my rant but that thing made me mad.

it sure is....i took it to the dump with me when i was unloading the fence that blew down and had to throw it into a 10 foot dumpster almost broke myself in half and missed the dumpster...good thing i didnt or it woulda come straight down on my head....my dads 99 didnt have one of those things in it and have never had a need for one.....i do have a need for the room under the seat though......my thought is the need for the room under the seat would be greater than the need for that metal thingy...also im assuming that thing cost money...would think ford would say adios to that thing.

how often do you use it though???? when your not using it are there times you wish you had room under the seat??? im a freak and dont like things laying around...i dont like things on the seats or in the cab of my truck...so if i can put it under the seat thats cool....put in the bed of my truck thats cool but dont like clutter sitting in my truck...so for me that thing is worthless for you maybe not so worthless??

I use it every day, like you I don't like anything on my seats. (or my floor boards for that matter) I fold the seats up, fold out the metal trays and put everything on there I would normally set on my seats. Plus you can strap things down to it that you don't want to slide around. (hand tool boxes comes to mind)

I took mine out to,I never use it and the real reason I took it out is so I can fold up the seat's and put my dog in the back. That way she stay's off the seat's and still has room on the floor.

I think it's one of those thing that when you need it, you need it. If you're sure you will never need it, well there you go. I've needed it twice so far.

I too use mine all the time. If I don't want my dog on the seat, I fold out the tray, then put her dog bed on it....perfect!

Also, the shelf makes a perfect protective cover for stereo amplifiers, allowing you to keep the storage space behind the seats.

I will weigh in on the pro side. Every trip with the fiver I will put our Cooltron, hamper for maps, coffee cups, dog bed etc. When at home I like the extra room for tools, boxes etc. that I don't want in the bed. For me it it is very useful.
