An acquaintance has an 427 FE block and rods. A machinist has looked at the block. Its standard but will need a .010-.030 clean up. Otherwise very nice. Has the cross bolt mains caps. I don't know these engines. I'm just the guy with the internet access. I did not find anything in FAQ. TIA
And there is a lot of difference between a .010 and .030 cleanup. At .030 over the sideoiler 427 is close to it's natural bore limits. Some top oilers however can go much further and I've heard as much as .060 on some blocks. I was offered a std bore 72 sideoiler service block for $2500. Most I see are in the $2900 range at std bore. Topoilers go for a little less. Around the $2000 for a nice std bore topoiler. You can buy a brand new Genesis or Pond 427 block for around $3300 (plus lots of machine work) that will bring you close to $4000. The rods will either be the large bolt type or the LeMans capscrew style. Those are worth anywhere from $150-350. There are also marine 427 blocks which are cast as sideoilers and drilled as topoilers. So what kind are you looking at??
