long story short i have a 90 Bronco and i have to enguage the 4wd (for now) manualy by getting under it and turning the pin on the transfer case from 2wd to 4hi, well tonight driving home in the deep snow i think it popped out of 4hi into an area between 4hi and lo and i couldent move. so i got under it and shifted it into 4 low and drove home, my problem is i cant get it back into 4 hi or 2wd. i have the truck on and in neutral, and i try to turn the pin to 4hi and it makes a grinding noise. so now im stuck in 4lo :/ any help would be appriciated alot by the way if it helps i have manual hubs and this is the 1st time ive ever had it in 4wd in my 2 years of owning it.
I would say that you need to work over the push button 4WD to figure if it is the motor or the wiring between the motor and the module. I would also say that your reduction fork is probably going bad, the neutral feeling. It wears very bad when holding the reduction gear in high but hardly at all on the low portion of the fork, because it is rarely in the low range. Maybe the easiest thing for you to do is find yourself a manual transfer case and the shifter for it and put that in instead of crawling under the truck to engage the 4wd and ranges.
Is it a auto or stick ?
I had the same problem before ......go to the junkyard and get a motor.
Theres tons of them most f-150 will interchange.
Try backing up then netural see if it will disengage after that.
I took my motor off during a snow storm to get it into 4wd got going and it poped out just like what happened to you.
I never went into low like you though.
