Cab Mount Question..

I've always wondered why the cab is somewhat loose on my ranger (91). It's my winter car so I never really got around to looking, till today when I installed a limited slip carrier I picked up.

It appears the rearmost cab mounts have gone bye bye. THe bushings and bolts are still there, but the metal that attaches to the frame appears to have rusted away :O. What's weird are the front two mounts are in great shape.

Now I notice that the mounts are held on the frame with what appears to be a rivet assembly.

My question is does any place sell replacement mounts, that could replace the old rusted off ones, or am I going to have to get some steel and do some welding?? The frame and everyhing has it's typical surface rust on it, just the rear cab mounts seem to be in the worst shape.

Mind you this is a winter car. I've put a good chunk of $$ to get it where I want it reliability wise, so I just cant throw the thing out to pasture...

Thanks

Better yet, if anyone has the part # for it, I'd appreciate it

I'm looking for the metal bracket

Maybe look for some "good" used ones from a pick and pull yard. -Ed

Buffman, I see you have a brand new cab mount and bushing assembly in the picture with your question, and it looks to have a Ford part label on it. Have you tried your local Ford store for the rear mounts? If they can't get them you could remove the old ones from your frame by drilling out the rivets. Then have some new metal welded in the mount where the rusted part was, after it's cleaned up. Then reattach the mount to the frame with grade 8 bolts and self locking nuts. Put in the new bushings and you'll be all set. If too much of the mount is rusted away then you could look for some better ones at a bone yard.

The cab mount bracket in your picture looks like it's for one of the front cab locations. The rear mounts are larger and are also left and right specific. I just today found out from my local Ford store that the rear cab mounts are still available for the 91 standard cab. They are about $128.50 each. Part number for the left side is 5084B. Right side is 5084A. Your local Ford store can order them for you, so you can get them in about a week or less. I found this out because I need some for my 91 supercab. When you go to order them you could get the parts guy to verify this is the exact part you need for each side. It was a big surprise that they are still available.

Thanks Rangerman Stan I had emailed the ford parts guy at the local place, but he hasnt emailed me back. Those are indeed the rear cab mounts for the standard cab. Maybe I'll see if I can get them for a discount, otherwise, I located some universal ones today for a heck of a lot cheaper..

I took the economical way out. $90 for a pair of aftermarket built better than stock units I located off ebay. I called the local dealer, and they wanted $190 each for the mounts. Based on how long the stock ones lasted, I'll give these beefy ones a shot

just a FYI for anyone looking to replace the rear mounts, these are what I ended up buying.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...4476838&rd=1,1

The rear two mounts were toast. The front two bottom washers popped off so I had to fix those. All is well now.

Hardest part was grinding the rivets off

the reason why you can still buy they parts at the dealer for a 91 is that its the same frame used from 83 to 97 and by federal law, all vehicle manufactors have to make oem replacement parts for at least 10 years past the manufactor date... see how ready parts are available for those frames after 07 or 08 once they no longer make them and stock items sell off the shelves.

Oh How I wish that was true. Many times I've tried to order parts for a car/truck two years old and it wasn't avail from Ford.

part numbers are

FOTZ5084B LH reg cab list $126.28 FTE $91.00

FOTZ5084A RH reg cab list $126.28 FTE $91.00

E6TZ5084A RH super cab list $44.20 FTE $31.82

E6TZ5084B LH super cab list $46.20 FTE $33.26

checked and all the numbers look to be still avail, The e6tz5084a might be a little tough to get, shows status D90 refered/backorder from Chicago

well I ended up going with those mounts, because the local dealer wanted $190 each for them. Based on how bad the stock mounts look, new OEM replacements wouldnt last much longer. I threw a few coats of paint on the new mounts, and we'll see how they hold up.
