I was/am trying to put new bearings in my 9" outta a 72 F100 and the carrier bearing inner race is stuck.
Any tips or suggestions? I already damnaged one part by giving it a bit too much effort so I don't want to do that again. The outter cage popped off and the rollers came out but the inner part of the bearing assembly seems welded to the differnetial. I have a press and the press starts to deform and the bearing doesn't move. Thanks for any suggestions.
You are really having your share of problem. If I were you I would try heating up the inner race a bit. This may expand it enough to get it of in the press.
I like that idea. I thought that was a possiblity but my grinder disk was alreadt worn to a nubbin' from 30 yr of rust on a break drum. *COUGH COUGH* I love asbestos. This holiday shopping thing keeps getting in the way of the truck working. Thanks for the tips.
I don't know if you have the problem solved yet, but I thought I would put my 2 cents in. I had the same idential problem happen. I took my handy dandy grinder and very carefully ground part way through the bearing. I took a chisel and wacked on the grove a few times and the thing split open. It was still on there so darn tight that I had to use the press to get it off. Good luck Gary
