drivin a 7.3 now

well, it snowed here today, we got the predicted 8-10 inches, although the wind put most of it into drifts, so since the volvo is kinda stuck at home today, I actually get to drive the truck that I intend to buy from my boss, an 88 350 cab/chassis with a utility box on it, found out that it will plow through bumper high snow if you stay into it in 3rd!.

it has a 7.3 NA and zf5, 2x4 duelly (11,000 gvw) with im estimating 200,000 since the od just rolled over a couple thousand ago.

this is hopefully the engine that will eventually end up in my highboy with my nv4500 behind it rather than the zf box (which will most likely get sold when i do), but not untill the highboy is ready.

it seems to do alright, and has started up quickly all day although i did have to crank on it a couple of times the first time since it wasn't plugged in,but i expectd it. you can fell that the trannys a bit wore out, but still shifts alright and stays in gear even in the rocking i had to do a couple of times.

the speedo is spot on, but the tach is about 250rpm slow, at 30 in 4th it shows 1250 (code 65 rear, pretty sure they're 4.10's) and it has a small leak at the front of the engine.

my intentions with it would be to sell the utility bed to recoupe some of the cost of the truck and put a flat bed onto it, give it synthetic oil, and a better exhaust system, and hope for 18 mpg or better with an egg under my foot.

any diesel-specific things to look for or check on it?
