I just tested my coolant with the Fleetguard strips and found almost no traces of FW-16 in the system. When should I expect my engine to blowup? How long does it take for damage to happen in the 7.3 if the additive level drops? The truck has 100,000 miles on it. I guess I should also ask how much a new block will cost me.
When the weep hole on the pump starts leaking replace it. while you have it off check the outside of the front cover (under where the pump was) for pitting. Cavitating coolant can cause leaks here and you will see coolant in the oil. another spot is the injector cups here you will see fuel in the coolant.
I wouldnt worry about the block, the front cover and cupps are generally where the problem surfaces. Get the additive right or switch to Red and dont worry untill you notice some of the above.
