In a fuel bowl "O" ring thread a couple days ago a couple people mentioned using "O" rings from Lowes and McMaster. Both of these type of "O" rings are for H2O, plumbing applications. Can you really use these type of "O" rings to repair the fuel bowl drain lever? Are they all made of the same material or do you really need to use OEM or similar "O" rings in the diesel fuel application? Are they made from a different material? Does anyone really know for sure?
you can ues them for a temp. fix but they will start leaking again. you need to use diesel rated o-rings if you want it to last. if you dont want to pay for the OE rings you need to fine some VITON rings, they are rated for diesel fuel
Therefore, as long as the o-rings are either Viton, Viton-ETP, or Buna-N, they will hold up as well as OEM because the OEM rings are also from one of these three materials.
