After reading the other posts about this code, I bought a DFPE sensor thinking that it was the culprit. The light was off for several days and then back on again. What are the odds that EGR is bad? Or I picked up a bad sensor? What else could be causing the error code? Thanks.
Are you sure the light is on for the same code? Could be a bad sensor, you need to test the voltage on the wires...search the forum for another P0402 thread, there are instructions in there to test. Takes 5 minutes.
If I am not mistaken it located on the top right side of the engine near the DFPE sensor. Wonder if you could clean the EGR valve instead of replacing it?
I am going to try cleaning the EGR valve before I replace it. Figure I dont have much to lose for trying. If it works, great, if it doesnt then I will just change it out. Prices vary from $39 dollars all the way up to $125. Wonder if this is one of those things where you get what you pay for?

Reason: post appearing twice
I tested the new sensor that I bought at Autozone and it was bad. Voltage on it tested 5v, 0v, 0v. The original sensor I had tested 5v 0 .05v So it was better than the new one I got. Ford wanted $103 for the sensor. Napa had one for $35. I just installed the Napa sensor and it tests good (5volts 0volts and 1volt) and reset the computer. I cleaned the EGR but it was not that dirty. Light carbon on the inside and no chucks or bad build up. So if the 2nd new sensor doesnt fix the p0402 code, guess I will have it put on the computer.
