I just bought a 2000 v10 super duty and when put in reverse and you are turning the wheel it stalls out! It only stall out while turning the wheel the engine idles up some then will drop to about 600 rpm and only stall when turning the wheel .any help would be great!!!!!!!!!
sounds to me like your torque converter is cuasing the problem. Your idle should not drop to 600 r's when shifting and the resistance of the power steering just pulls the rpms down even more til it dies
No it does not seem to do it in drive!!! It has not been fun with this truck just bought it on the 8th at a ford dealer and it is the 20th and i have had it 2 days to drive ever thing seems to be wrong with this truck!!!!!!!I am asking for my money back real soon stalling is not the only problem with this truck.......
I suspect the power steering pump. It might just need a GOOD flushing and refill.
TEST (if using OEM size tires):
1. Check your front tire pressure...and record.
2. If at 55psi or below...add until 70psi.
3. Now at 70psi...try backing up and turning. Does the V10 still stall?
If NO, then your power steering needs a flush or replacement. Reason being is that when your front tires are at a lower psi that causes more drag or resistance...and makes your power steering work harder.
Dealer ship just replaced power steering pump and fluid and the problem is still there . The pump was replaced because when you are sitting still you can not turn the wheel after replacing the problem is stll there and the wheel will not turn!!!!!
Long shot, but how's your tranny fluid smell, and do you have a gauge for temps?
I'll qualify that - I had a kinked tranny line once briefly (right after work had been done on it) and the resultant pressure for whatever reason made the truck stall out when I went into reverse. That's my contribution to stabbing in the dark :-)
I just had the tranny flushed when i bought it for precaution so i have no idea. dealer also just called and said that it was the iac and they replaced the pcm.
Just posting about repair after the iac and pcm fix the problem seems to be gone. Also i was wondering when you take the oil filler cap off there is the white milky residue on the cap the oil looks fine but i am a little worried about the head gasket the truck has been sitting and in and out of the shop in new york so it is colder out side have not had it long enough to see if it is losing anti freeze yet but any help would be great . also how do you check for the head gasket if it was a problem?
