I would replace that K&N filter with an open element like the Tymar or Kwik discussed on this forum. Then add an IC in preparation for some Bean tranny saver injectors. Of course then you will have to get that chip reprogrammed.

It never ends ain't moding fun

He already has an IC out of a 2000.

like mentioned though, injectors with a proper burn custom chip with your supporting mods are the way to go, decent milage if you chop off your right foot.

with a e40d tranny, raise the transmission pressures and get a good torque converter, but you'll be needing a transmission beyond trany saver injectors.

no thats not totally correct. I have 140cc (smaller than stage 1's) injectors and with a 70 hp chip I can get temp going too high just putting the hammer down coming onto the highway. Now I have a realtively generic chip and could probably get better programming that has less temps but I am planning an IC install very soon so I can use the top part of my tach for longer stretches.

Now for the orginal poster a few tranny upgrades would be first. Then a set of injectors with a chip from Dp-tuner or Tony Wildman.

Is your K+n a drop in filter or a full intake replacement? if its a drop in drop it like a bad habit. if its a full replacement system I would still drop it but as long as you service it properly keep a close eye on it to make sure its not passing dirt.

never mind about the intake I jsut saw you have an AFE filter on the K+n tubing. that is better but I am not a fan of cleaning filters. I like paper and toss them when they get dirty.

The best injector is a matter of personal opinion. Alot of poeple on this site like Beans injectors.

Tranny savers flow 130cc.
Stage 1's flow 160cc.
Stage 2's flow 160cc also, but with a custom nozzle that flow more fuel sooner, giving more low end power.

Replacing injectors is a DIY job.

building injectors can also be a DIY job. and much cheaper. here is a link to check out

http://www.diy-injectors.com/

maybe other have beans and swamps links to give you more injector options.
The 5 sp is good but your clutch may need an upgrade soon after the injectors. But it should last for a while depends on its current conditions

Swamps site is:
http://www.swamp-donkey.biz/

Beans site is
http://www.beansdieselperformance.com/

If you havent already done so consider going to a single mass flywheel.

One more point if you go with injectors you may have to change out the turbo housing, that .95 wont move enough air for Stage 1s at WOT. You will make lots of black smoke but peak performance will suffer.

I have the Bean's stage 2 injectors, bigger Bank's turbo, intake, Edge tuner (with attitude), 4 inch exhaust, cold air intake, and a built tranny with quad clutch torque converter. I drove the truck up to Yosemite in November, and I got 19.8 MPG. This included some city driving and hauling a load for about 100 miles. When you have the right combo, everything seems to work just right.

banks doesnt make a bigger turbo for our trucks, its actually just a smaller exhaust housing to help the turbo spool. Id suggest some injectors from Bean- tranny savers should be good for 275-285 rwhp, stage 1's 320-350 rwhp and stage 2's 400-425. Bean also sells clutches and can help you choose the right one depending on your injecter choice. Also a chip from Tony Wildman so you can get the maximum hp out of the new squirts. He's done all my tuning since i got my first set of larger injectors (stage 1's).
