Question Side Window Falling Out !!!!

I have a 2001 Excursion.

The large side window above my driver's side rear wheel almost fell out.

It looks like the glue at the "hinge" has failed.

The only thing that kept the window from hitting the pavement was the ventilation actuator at the rear of the window.

My Ford dealer says that the repair requires a whole new glass panel and frame.

He wants $1300 for the repair.

Sounds outrageous to me.

Seems like the glass could simply be reglued.

Has anyone had this problem?

What was the solution?

Thanks in advance for any information.

Smile 1/4 glass

if the stealer says that the glass needs to be replaced, i would call your insurance company and file a claim. technically, its broken. the insurance company might call a glass replacement company and see if it can be glued. dont do it at the dealer. it is possible to glue it. you just have to use the right epoxy. a glass company will do it right. but definately call your ins agent.

i have heard about this. its because the glass is so heavy and there isn't much to hold on to it. and the thing doesn't exactly ride to softly either. thats why i never open mine up.

Thumbs up Excursion Side Window

Thanks for the feedback.

I took the truck to a glass repair shop and they glued it back.

Cost ........... $69 !!!!!!!!

Just wait until I have a conversation with my local Ford dealer !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

see, most people would have just swallowed it and had the new glass installed. now just hope that the glue doesn't pop again. good luck.

I bet Gorilla Glue would hold it and a lot cheaper than $69.

yeah it might. but if it doesn't, and the window falls and breaks, who has the liability of paying for the new glass??? they are $1000. each.. now $69 doesn't sound that much does it??

The glass company company probably used a 2 part epoxy that is made for glass, much better than gorrilla glue. And if they charged you that much to re-attach it, then it probably came with a guarantee.

If it comes with a guarantee I would definitely have it in writing. In my book $69 is a lot to pay for any kind of glue job. I don't think they will replace a $1000 piece of glass when they were paid $69 for the job but I could be wrong. Mississippiexcursion, did you receive any kind of warranty for the glue job. I have not had a lot of good results with epoxy but I have glued things with Gorilla glue and intentionally tried to break them with a hammer only to have them break in another place. [We used to bored in the machine shop where I used to work]
