I was not able to post the photo as my account does not permit attachments. But you seem to have understood my description. I think it did not buzz before. I will go outside and test that. Thank you.
You were right. There is no buzzer when the door is open and the key is in the switch. Probably disconnected by previous owner. I removed the steering wheel cover to see if I can reconnect it. But there is only the connection for the horn. To reconnect it, probably I would have to remove the steering wheel. But it is too cold outside. I will do that next summer. All is Ok now. Thank you.
I ran across that pig-tale when doing a clock spring repair that initally brought me to FTE (Thnx FTE I'm going supporter for Xmas). The original spring contact was taped and tucked away behind the clock spring in the housing and to the right of the center bolt is a square hole and inside of it is an obviously broken off square pot-metal shaft.
At the time of the repair, "Life" intruded and I had to button it up and go TKB...
I've also had the glut of strange Key behavior like pulling out the key while running. Pulling the key out when off with it not lined up with thumb tabs, Results with key not going back in without serious finageling, And key not releasing lock. Goes for weeks with out probs then has a spate of 'em. Its parked now to keep from biting me in the behind.
So yes I know it needs the switch, but my main question is that broken shaft. I got my ford parts counter guy (An actual good, regular guy) to print out an exploded veiw. And he pulled out the two# parts called out , & neither came close to being what you would expect. One plastic, One metal, but no square shape. Difference supposedly being Tilt/Non-Tilt. Mine is tilt.
Is this the dreaded shaft break thats often written about or different? I thought that one was lower
Does anybody know if can have the tunblers changed to match my old key so I don't end up with a bunch of keys for this thing. If so where, locksmith or dealer? I kind of liked having 1 key.
