I am getting ready to place an order for an 08 and I have a couple of lingering questions. In the past I have always ordered the crew cab and the short box. Now I understand the F450 will only be offered in the long box and you will also get a larger fuel tank with the long box. Can any of you tell me how much different the ride will be from a long box vs a short box? I am also cusious about the 20 inch wheels. Is there any advantage one over the other, 18 vs 20? I am planning on an F450 King Ranch if I can get comfortable with the long box idea. Does anyone have any idea what the base price difference is between an F350 and an F450?
I could be mistaken, but I'm not sure they offer the KR in the F450's. However, in either case, congrats. I hope everything goes smoothly and you get your hands on a great truck.

I have been checking the Ford Vehicles web site (http://www.fordvehicles.com/index.asp) often to build an F-450 but still have not seen it listed there. You must be going through a dealer?
Well I do know that once you go long bed, you will never be satisfied with the short bed ever again (for everyone I know that has done that anyways). With such a high payload capacity these trucks have - it really should have a long bed for the room too. Maybe not so much now, but everything you would buy at a home center (like Home Depot) comes in 8' length (like plywood and a 2x4). I have rode in short bed trucks, and I really cant tell any difference with the ride. You might jump a curb with the longer wheelbase (and even more chance with a dually) at first - just go a little wider on turns. The larger fuel tank is nice too. The F-450 is a lot of truck, congrats on that! I was told once 'it is better to have too much truck then not enough', how true it is.

in my experiance longer wheelbases ride smoother, i prefer along bed myself...i used to only like shortbeds, but since i went long i wont go back...its nice being able to slide sheets of pltwood in and shut the gate, also there is still alot of bed space left with a toolbox
This may be splitting hairs, but isn't the King Ranch an option on the Lariat trim package?
Yes it is but if you go to the Ford vehicle website or a brochure it is a little confusing since you can "build" a King Ranch when in essence you are adding it as a package to the Lariat. If you look at the window stickers, it will have code 608A which is for Lariat and then list the King Ranch as an option of close to $3k.
and a well spent 3K it is too I would like to know if anyne can tell me the cost increase of going from an F350 to an F450 all options being equal otherwise.
