Thats funny I just got off the phone with ford parts and they said you have to buy the housing for the tune of $ 98.48 looks like I need to call a few for dealers.
The amber lense is part of the outer shell. and is sold seperate from mirror, I know because the ONE time my wife drove my truck, she broke it on a telephone poll.
If you are talking about the mirrors with the led turnsignal/marker lights then tjmax is correct. The light and mirror back are one unit. I would shop around for a better price though.
He was right you have to buy that assembly I checked 4 dealers prices ranged from 98 - 200 dollars. I got one frome the cheapest dealer will have it in the am. Does anyone know how the back cover comes off?
To get the cover off, tip your mirror down look behind it with a flashlight and you'll see a couple of locking tabs that go through plastic slots. Push the tabs to the side with a long skinny screwdriver while pulling the cover off with your fingernails. Tip the mirror up and repeat with the bottom tabs. Unplug the light harness, plug into the replacement cover and push the replacement cover into place until you hear the little tabs click into place. Done!
The mirror cover contains the clearance light and turn signal; amber and red. The harness plugs into the rear of the compartment in the cover that contains the LED's for these lights.
wow, thats quite pricey for the back covers. maybe imma try the local ford wrecking yard. hopefully they'll have somethin a little cheaper.. thanks again for the replies...
Thanks for the disassembly info. I know I could have gotten it cheaper but I wanted it quick. I was worried about water getting in and shorting out the lights. Maybe a unwarranted concern but sometimes going cheaper costs you more in the long run. By the way ford prices are all over the place and way to high. Last week a friend got injector o rings for a 7.3 IDI price at IH was .16 cents apiece but they didn't have enough so went to ford for the last couple and they charged 1.00 a piece.
