where is a good web site, or book i can pick up at borders that covers how to change rear end gear ratios... i would like to change it from the current 4.85 in my F3... any suggestions on what to change it to? (maintaining amounts torque - intend to haul stuff in this truck, but increasing top speed) what is the easiest way to go about this? thanx.
Welcome to an almost total lack of info on anything bigger than a F-100 toy!
Ive a 54 F-350 with 5.14 ratio. In my case I did find that mid 80's E-350 vans are very, close to proper width. Close enough to not be concerned.
However these Dana 60 rears are extremely heavy and the spring perches have to be relocated about a inch on both sides. At least they permit modern 8 lug 16" wheels, a welcome from my 6 lug 7.50x 17's ! The one I picked up is a 4.10 which will be OK with the original 239 engine but better gears are available when I put in a 292.
My 350 has a 9' bed and a dump lift and I use it as a truck, hauling gravel, engines, etc. so wanted strength, not a small tube 9" that can take 750hp but not 3 yards of gravel.
