Hi
Just changed the rear end fluid. What a pain trying to get the fluid back into the Pumpkin. Does anyone have a secret to make it easier, special pump etc.
I have a 98 4X4.
Thanks
A couple of things: I see the guys at the shop use something like a grease gun; they open the end, pour the lubricant in, seal it up, put a hose in the diff, and then shove the plunger up, forcing the lube in.
I just put one of those conical nipples on the end of lube bottle, attach a hose to it, shove the hose in the pumpkin, and squeeze the bottle. It's a little hard to get it all the way out, but it works.
You can get a little pump that attaches in place of the cap. It looks like the pump on a bottle of lotion. You can get them at most parts stores. Makes it a quick and clean job.
Boat store on the boat section at Walmart normally has pumps that screw onto quart bottles to fill outdrives, works great. I have seen them at Checkers lately in the gear lube section. Also if you are doing more than one of these a drill pump works better than anything.
Below is a picture of my home made rig. I use it for all kinds of fluids.
I Installed a tire valve , but I never use it. You dont need it.
All you need is few hand pumps to pressurize it, just watch the fluid go in.
The tank costs about $15 at a local Lowes.
