battrie light

i was driving the other day and the battrie light came on so i got out chequed the wires and as far as i can tell they are good. the truck still starts and drives good but the light makes me worrie

Have your charging system tested.

Places like autozone can test the charging system of your vehicle.

They can also bench test altenators.

i know the alternator works because i disconected the battrie and it is still running

Then it's probably the voltage regulator, or the battery itself.

Still have the charging system tested. It's better to have it tested and know what is wrong, than to guess.

They can test everything on the vehicle, including the battery.

NEVER ever disconnect the battery with the engine running.

You have probably damaged a diode in the alternator.

That is a carry over from thge days of GENERATOR's (DC)

Alternators are A/C (& DC) they require a place for the generated current to go. ie: The Battery


BTW> That's also called an AMP or ALT light ....not a battery light.

It measures the amperage the alternator & VR are putting out.

To measure the Battery ...a VOLTmeter would be installed.
