hey guys. a friend of mine recently bought a 1986 F-150. well, he went to change the battery and got the cables backwards. he said that the starter solenoid smoked and now nothing electrical works. i put a test light on it and it has power to the solenoid but seems to not have any leaving it. so we swapped out the solenoid but still nothing. hes at wits end with this and any good information will be greatly appreciated.
The reverse polarity has melted the electrical system in the harness and alternator.
You will need to replace the fusible links/alt, possibly the battery and possibly other components
also, May I suggest you put the actual topic in the title?
Not only for our benefit to know that the thread is about but,
if someone has the same problem and was serarching for threads relating to it. how would they know to type in "Need some Help" for a reverse polarity topic ?
Note: The Title data base is smaller and more efficient in searching than the message box data base.
sorry about that. its just he needed to find out some suggestions quickly. the fusible links, where would these be located? and how would one go about repairing this. thank you again for your help.
