I was wondering if anybody has had any issues with their temp. guage. Mine is pinning in te red but guess what...it's not hot. I have had the cylinder temp. head sensor replaced after getting the code. That did not take care of it. Then I had the coolong system flushed (advice form the service writers at Ford). Still doing it! This is really annoying and ticking me off! Could it be a computer issue? Like needing a reboot? I have an 04 F-150 FX4, beautiful but becoming a headache.
You do not really say, but was all the work done at the Ford dealership or was some done there and some elsewhere? There is usually a set time/fee alotted for diagnosis. Reading the 'code' is only part of the diagnosis. The tech should have been able to use the Ford scan tool or at the least a multi-meter to determine if the sensor was in fact malfunctioning. Sometimes a tech goes from step 'A' to step 'D' because of what he has experienced before on a similar make/model. You then have the situation you are in. It sounds like you are involved in customer financed science project. I'd find another shop.
My mechanic and my husband (ex-mechanic) both worked on it together. The truck was scanned and worked on in the same afternoon. Hence the code was valid and there is nothing wrong with the sensor because it is new. While driving the truck after the sensor was replaced they drove it around and when it red lined again, the temp reader that was plugged into the truck during the ride, read 83 degrees C. Any other suggestions??? Ford is trying to pull a fast one on me anyways...they are suggesting the trial and error route. They said they don't know what's wrong with it and of course can't tell me if my warranty will cover it.
A guy I work with had the same issue under warranty on a 05. Ford ended up having to replace the entire instrument panel to fix the problem. I didn't get to look at the panel but I assume it is a mixture of electronics and printed circuits so if there was a short it could be very difficult to pinpoint.
