crying over spilt oil

Is it spilt? or spilled?

I have to cleanup oil that has soaked into plywood.

I spilt gear oil all over the floor of my dad's trailer. By the time i found it, it had all soaked into the ply-wood and speedy dry didn't do too much. It is an enclosed trailer and the smell is horrible. Any suggestions on how to clean it up?

Encapsulate the plywood in paint, or better yet, replace the plywood. As you start using chemicals on it, eventually the plywood will seperate.

If you don't mind the stain, just put a fan on it and open the trailer door. The smell will go away in 24 or 48 hours. The oil shouldn't hurt the plywood.

Most cleaners are water based, and so can de-laminate the wood.

Yeah that gear oil smell will never go away. If I get it on my clothes I just throw them away. I would just replace the plywood.

I love that smell. I always dab a little hypoid oil behind my ears in the morning.

I missed the fact that it was gear oil. The two above are right, that smell lingers for a lot longer than motor oil. Probably best to replace the plywood.

Good luck!

Try some mineral spirits or paint thinner. Look on the bright side the gear oil also acts as a preservative.
