Hi guys,I just traded a 75 mustang even for a 48 f-1. The vin plate says it came with a v-8,and it has the y code that makes it a 3/4 ton truck. How is this right if it is a f-1. ok i am using a 67 model 390 automatic, and also have a 73 model f-150 truck that I want to use the rear end, and the big question is will the spindles work if I pull them from the i-beams by dropping the king pins from both and install them onto the straight axle. i havent gotten into it much yet just visual inspection and they look close to the same size. if any suggestions you may have please help and thanks.

I gather your vin is 88RY123456 or something like that. That would be a 3/4 ton and is an F3. The vin appears 3 places - top of the passenger frame rail near the motor mounting angle, rating plate on the glovebox door and data plate on the firewall above the starter solenoid.
The cab and glovebox might have been swapped, so the frame rail is the most reliable vin location. 1/4" characters lightly stamped - use steel wool and chemicals to remove layers of grease or paint.
Can't help on the kingpin question - I left my drivetrain stock except for 9" third member.
Good trade, by the way! - tim

The cab is likely from a 3/4 ton F3. Is your title for a half-ton or are you going by the F1 logos on the cowl?

The trouble with figuring out what you have is all body parts from 48 - 52 / F1 thru F6 are interchangable. (except 8' and 6.5' boxes - frame is longer for 8') These parts have been freely and frequently swapped over the years. All the references I've ever seen show stock wheels for all as 16" and larger.

F1 indicators: 8 leaf springs up front, 10 in the rear. The fender opening stops at the parting line on the fender while the F2 and up rises about 1 1/2" above the line. Brakes and driveline have some differences. If you have specific questions I'll try to help you sort it out.

Its in princton Kentucky,I found a 51 f-3 with the 8 lug wheels, 3/4 ton ford all pieces are there other than motor,a 48 f-6 1 ton complete and a 51 f-6 with some good parts. If anyone is interested in any parts let me know.
