F150 (2000) transfer case adjust

F150 (2000) transfer case adjust
What is there to adjusting the linking on the transfer case. The shifter moves, but it will not go into 4whl, etc. I've been told that it may be a linkage adjust problem. Last winter, it would not stay in 4whl and was very hard to get into 4whl... Suggestions?????
