Cut off the muffler and cat?
I did some searching on the forums but didn't come up with an answer. Should I cut off the muffler and the cat on my 2001 F-250 auto? Any harm in doing this? Will is wake the dead when I fire her off? There is a shop down the road from me that will cut them out and put 5" back for $190.
Any suggestions?

I cut my muffler out and used a piece of flex exhaust pipe in it's place. Cut the hanger off the muffler and welded to the pipe and hung it back in the original position. Total cost was about 50 bucks for the pipe and the clamps. As far as benefits, cool sound and lower egt. Last summer I had about 3500 lbs in the bed and 5000 lbs in tow and pulling a 5.5% grade for 3 miles the pryo never went over 1100*.

I thought only the trucks with manual transmissions had cats in '01.
Either way, less restriction is the goal, so you'll be happier.

My early '99 is a Colorado truck (auto trans) and came with a cat. Cat is still there (well the shell of one at least).
