Old Y Block Info Please !
I was directed to this sight from one of our members . I need help to figure out this motor. I just purchased a f600 and it does have a old y block in it because of the outside ribs in the valve covers . Well any ways This truck has 10 k on it the oils change stickers read 5860 & 3630 the ones I can Make out . Well any ways this motor has a autolite / Holley carb on it with a spin on oil filter . I was told these engines were built all the way to 1964. I thought it was kinda strange a truck with this amount of miles having a newer motor installed??? Any one out there Give me any hints . What Year this Motor IS ???

Year of the truck? Y blocks have rear mounted distributors that sit on the right side, rear (passenger side). The valve covers are held on by two nuts, one on each end. Spark plugs are low down on the heads, under the exhaust manifolds. The timing cover is cast iron, with a 4 bolt water pump on the top front of the timing cover. The oil pump is external on the lower left side with the oil filter in front. A spin-on oil filter only means it is either 57 up car, or somewhat later truck, or was converted with the Ford kit. Look for any kind of casting numbers, part numbers or other identification.

You must be looking at my motor ! Did looked for casting Numbers and above the oil filter is Numbers C2Ae-6015C . Acording to what Ive found on the internet it's a 1962 block .
do you agree with this ? I've never been a ford nut but I know some of the old motrs .
Can you tell me what size this block is by this casting number ? Thanks for all your help. Al

The C2AE-C was first designed for the 1962 model year. It would be used from then to 1964.
I'm pretty sure that the F600's first model year, 1953, used a 239 flat-head v8. From 1954 up to the late 50's, the V8's were Y-blocks, either the Ford Y-block or the Lincoln style of Y-block. They started with a 239 y-block and also used 272 and 292's. The 272 had the letters ECG cast into the block next to the distributor and also under the alternator on the passenger side of the block. The 292 has its casting numbers over the oil filter. I don't know much about the Lincoln y-block but you can find out more at www.ford-y-block.com.

Naw Fellas I was talking about the ribs on the side of the valve covers. Like the old 292 312 valve covers had .

I checked the block numbers and I Have a 1962-64 292 cid. After I found the right place to find everything.
