Issues with Cat install

89 F250, 460/7.5, 4x4, C6 Auto

Okay, I need to put on my high flow Cat. The stock exhaust and stock Cat connect via a 4-bot housing. Two pipes come from the manifolds (replacing with headers during this project) and my new Cat has ONE 2.5" intake and exit.

Suggestions how to connect the one-in/one-out new Cat? A Y pipe?
I am only finding Y pipes for the 7.3 engine though.

What about getting another cat and running dual exhaust?

Yeah, was a thought. But I'd have to return this Cat, wait for the 'credit', and shop for a new cat. Oh, and I already have a Cat-back exhaust waiting in the garage to install that expects a single-out of the Cat.

I'd use the old cat but it broke off between the cat and the muffler, leaving little of pipe to use.

Well I guess you could always get some exhaust pipe and fabricate something up to use.

I ordered a new Cat that has the 4-bolt flange. I should be okay once that arrives.

Since my new headers will 'exit' lower than the stock manifolds, I'm still unsure how the new headers will fit the stock pipes to the cat flange.

Standby for news. I gotta do the oil pan and rear seal before I really worry about the exhaust. I guess you could say I'm getting all my ducks in a row first.

Last week I had a Y custom made by my mechanic on my Saab. He bent two pipes starting from the manifolds, joined them after cutting and buffing (much buffing). The joined pipes made an oval of about 3 inches by 2. He extended an end of a 2 pipe to about 3 inches, flattened it and soldered it to the joined pipes. Then he joined the flexible hose and another pipe to hold the O2 sensor and solderd that to the cat. It toook 4 hours to bend, solde and fit all that. When you say you replace the two pipes from the manifold with headers, what do you mean ? Does the headers replace the manifolds and pipes ?

I meant after I get the new headers on, I'm sure I'll have to struggle re-install the stock pipes that connected the manifolds to the cat flange. The new headers will have a different/lower 'exit' point than the stock manifolds have.

I'm sure I'll have to cut some of the piping off to make them meet the header 'exits'.

Have I totally confused you now?

No I understand now. I went to a site selling edelbrock headers and I understand that the header replaces the manifold. Good luck.

Yes, if the 'maifold' isn't stock (replaced with a performance manifold), it's called a header.

Smart of you to get all your ducks in a row man! Good deal on getting the different cat too, should make things alot easier.
