Its about -1C here and every time I turn over the truck, it sounds very roughf and there is white bluish smoke comming out of the exaust. From now on Ill plug it in but it never use to be this bad. Just got the oil changed. Turbo still broken. When is santa comming??
Did they overfill the oil? -1C is not very cold and shouldn't be the culprit/reason for the problem. Check the oil level... Shouldn't be much higher than mid to upper level of the hashmarks.
Also they should have put in 10W30 oil for the winter months. Some dealerships only put in 15w40. Gets a little thick below 32deg and hard starting. With a broken turbo things just don't work well either lack of power, more smoke etc.

So I am running 10W30 SD and my truck runs ruff on start up any time the temp goes below 4 deg. What will leaving the oil level down a bit help? Anything is worth a try.
A lot of dealers put in 15 quarts of oil which is what the 6.0 holds, BUT about 1 1/2 quarts doesn't drain out. The high pressure oil pump holds about 1 1/2 quarts when you drain the 6.0. I only put 13 1/2 quarts in when I change mine. The 6.0 from what I read here doesn't like to be overfilled. Techs can explain the problems better than I. Hope this answers part of your questions.
Another thing that came to mind is the '03's came with the old style injectors, C94's not C95's. The C94's were a problem from the start and with cold oil injectors can hang up untill the oil warms up. On my '03 which has 4 C94's and 4 C95's (dealer would only change right bank when I had injector problem) I put on a 500W oil pan heater which makes it nice when it's cold like now.
I was having the same problem. It's injectors, I have an 04 PSD and it sounded like it was missing after start-up in cold weather. Once it warmed up the oil evrything work fine. Took it to the dealer, when below 40 degrees the truck would start with 5 injectors working. The other three would freeze up until the oil got warm.
I am starting to have the same problem on my 04 when starting in cold weather.Last nite plugged in the block heater and didnt bark at all when started....If it is injectors does that throw a code....Thx
I think it will, but not for sure. The best thing to do is to let the dealership keep it over night. That way they can start it up and hear the problem. However mine did flash a code after the first few times it happened.
I dont have any bad injectors yet. Dealer said it was the turbo. It cycles during acceleration and at a constant speed. Would whis cause it to start roughf and white, bluish smoke?

Thanks for the info, block heater works great just not always available.
What do injectore cost?
Sounds like you need the latest FICM flash, or the 06e17 recall, whichever applies to your truck. The FICM flash, which is part of 06e17, cycles your injectors for about 30 seconds after you shut the engine off. It runs hot oil through them to flush them out and prevents them from sticking when cold. I just had an 04 that was misfiring on 2,4,6 & 8 during a cold start. Reprogrammed the FICM, drove the truck to get it hot, and the next morning it started 100% clean.

Would the local Ford dealer know about this fix? Wondering if this recall applies to the 2000 F350 7.3. Thanks for the info
