Radio & Shifter Position
I did a search but didn't see anything with this exact problem.
I have a 99 Expedition XLT and for the past week when the shifter is in reverse to radio goes blank. Any other position and it works fine. If I shift it back and forth a few times, the radio will remain on in reverse.

I'm not familiar with the '99 model. Is the 'Parking Aid - Reverse Sensing System' available on the '99 XLT? On my '03, the PAM Speaker interrupts by audio system when something is in range of the sensors. If the system is on your vehicle, try disabling the feature. You may have a bad speaker on the PAM module or the PAM module itself, so it's blanking out your radio but nothing is coming through the PAM speaker.

Sometimes a transmission range sensor will cause squirrelly electronics problems when they go out due to faults occurring in the data link lines of transmission when the sensor shorts internally. I have seen this many times on other vehicles but not on expy as of yet. But it may give you something to think about if you have no visible wiring shorts.
