I have searched but it appears not solid fixes yet. any updates, my trucks is doing it much more often.... planning on getting the dual setup for this. I checked everything for play and tightness.steering box was rplaced twice. 1st one cases split and replaced. got death wobble after that. replaced box and went away. coming back....steadily getting worse.
yes on the coil front superduty's some experience "oscilation" better known as jerking violently side to side after hitting small pot holes or joints in road. hence the death wobble because you cant control it and the only way to stop it is to ride it out while riding the brakes until you get to about 10 mph. usually happens around 30-45 mph sometimes heard at highways speeds. mine has never done this at highway speeds though. there was a tsb to adjust caster but it is still doing it. stock stabilizer was also replaced. im looking into a dual setup so ill be running 2 good ones or maybe all 3 who knows but it is scary as hell and rediculously dangerous.
Death Wobble? Yes, to experience it is next to one of the most terrifying experiences you'll experience in a life time. Vehicle control is next to non existent and in traffic this very frightening. Picture this, take your rig on a highway and at about 55mph or so, jerk the steering wheel hard to the left at least 1/4 turn of the wheel and immediately jerk it back to the right 1/4 turn past center, now if you feel brave enough do it several times rapidly to really know the feeling while it's pitching like a wild bronco. Remember most times while driving the vehicle is ok, but after certain conditions the front end ocillates back and forth.
Back in the 60's I had a car that did just that, I don't recall if I found the problem or a real smart mechanic did, I know it wasn't the dealership where I bought it. The problem in this case was a tie rod endand I suppose a ball joint could cause a similar action although not near as severe.
Just an idea do a very close check of the tie rod ends and hopefully you'll find the problem
Ok here is how I fixed mine. 8 70lbs sand bags in the bed and set my tire psi to 60 psi. ( My tires say 80 psi as I have the stock 17s ) And it rides great I love it now even at 80 mph.
Dealer fixed mine. Forced balanced all tires and rotated them on rims until they were as good as they could get them. Two ended up unacceptable. Replaced two with new tires and raised air pressure to 77 lbs. No more problems.
all tires were road forced and all were bad. this was done because of the hop at 42 mph on mine. 3 sets of new wheels before and after lift. the death wobble only started after steering boxes were replaced.
I had never experienced this on a stock truck until now. I got a 06 F-250 4X4 Short Bed Ext Cab, 5.4 Gas,,,, I have almost wrecked this truck 4 times in the last 5 days. All being over 70mph. Going to dealer to look at it but they have never heard of such a problem so this will get me nowhere more than likely. I guess I need to replace stearing stabilizer and shock? Man What A Ride!!!!
I have a F250 Crewcab 2 wheel drive with a 4" lift and 33's. I had the same problem I tried everything what work for me was I had the steering box tightened and I add a steering stabilizer. These two things made it go away. before that I had the tires replaced as well as the rims nothing worked.
