Hi, I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
I have a 1987 F-150 Lariat 4WD 5.0L Automatic with 94K original miles. Only problems I've ever had with it are normal wear and tear items. But lately it has had a problem starting. The engine cranks well (brand new Interstate 1000 Amp battery), and I've got two full tanks of gas, but one day it will start just fine, and the next it will crank and crank untill the battery is exhausted (if I let it). I checked the timing when I have it running, and that is OK, and the outside air temp is roughly the same on days that it will start as it is on problem days. It sounds to me like the fuel pump is wearing out, but I'd like some additional opinions, and suggestions.
if you turn key to on with engine off you should hear fuel pump for 3-5 seconds.
do you?
It started today and I did hear the pump run, I'll have to listen for it on a day it doesn't start. Am I correct in assuming that there are three pumps on this truck? I know that there is one in each tank, but where is the third?
