Sometimes our Excursion feels like it cavitates or misses when cruising at around 40-45 mph in 4th gear. When I step on the pedal it seems to be fine. No problems on the highway.......Any ideas?
Is it kind of like a hickup? Driving along and all of a sudden no rpms and almost as sudden everything is fine. If that is what is going on it may be your CPS starting to go. That is what they will do before they just fail all together.
See what else comes up here and if they think the same as me, a 10mm wrench, a $120.00 part from an International dealer not Ford, and 5 minutes will get you all fixed up. There's plenty of info on it just do a search. I just had to walk a buddy of mine through it the other day.
You cannot hear an engine "cavitate". It is inside the water jackets and all that is happening is air bubbles popping against the side of the water jackets around the cylinders. It would cause you to puke coolant out of the overflow bottle as combustion gasses could pass through the small pinholes right into the cooling system.
Chances are it's the CPS going out, if you get a stumbling or bucking problem while driving. Very common and it's happened to me before too.
