It works just like Napster used to! My 13 year old son was downloading and burning CD's, so I thought I would give it a try...I have yet to think of a song that is not in the Kazaa files. Pretty cool. I am burning CD's like crazy before somebody shuts it down like they did to Napster.
I guess the way they get away with it that people "share" music files. After you download music files other people upload the file from your computer. Since I have been using this service I no longer keep my DSL running 24/7 like I used to do. If they can upload music files from my hard drive what else can they access? At least for now I don't see any down side. I have just about copied all of my LP's onto CD using this service.

They can only download files from your shared folder. You can acess it by going to : c drive, program files, kazaa,my shared folder.
You can also turn kazaa off by right clicking the icon in the bottom right, click "close kazaa"
I keep the files in my shared folder to a minimum to prevent slowing down my connection (not a problem now with my cable modem).
sometimes you will get a corrupted file, everytime you click on it the program freezez up. This is when you will have to access the shared folder through the c drive to delete the bad file.
Ive been using kazaa for several months and all in all, its pretty good.
I down loaded just over 1500 songs from Kazaa & Kazaa Lite apperantly
Kazaa Lite was suposedly the safer program but I still found it to be loaded up with spyware. I used Adwatch v2.51 from Lavasoft to ward off any spyware.
But was told its still not safe. Also keep an eye on anyone younger than 18 on those file sharing programs theres access to a lot of nasty stuff. Sometimes the title isn't what the files all about I've
been douped a few times. I've deleted the program. I figure I've got enough music to keep me burning for a long time.
Kazaa is scumware that is sending information about your Internet usage without your knowledge. See www.scumware.com, specifically: http://www.scumware.com/wm1.html
Kazaa is one of the original and worst scumwares, especially since it hijacks links.
I tried Kazaa once, and I hated it. Not my style of sharing program, really. Then I heard allegations of the bloody thing containing spyware, and that was it. Been using WinMX happily for a year. It runs almost 24/7 and will crash maybe once in 30 days. It's a shade tougher to get certain rare files on WinMX as opposed to Kazaa, seemingly because the latter is a bit more popular. But it's like the others said, the only files available to peer users are the ones you designate. It's not as though your hard drive is an open book to people. They can only search by specific context, and if you don't have the one they're looking for, they don't even know you're there.
Nutter if you have Kazaa and Kazaa lite both, your spyware is coming from Kazaa (I have Ad-aware). I went to Kazaa lite because of the spyware and add banners,You have to remove everything that has to do with Kazaa before you can download Kazaa lite or it will not work.
Ken your right Kazaa is scumware that's why i removed every bit of it and went to Kazaa lite and have had no problems since.
I agree with Ken. It is one of the worse things you can have on your puter. I've made a lot of money from Kazaa but have hade a lot of long nights cleaning up systems for ppl.
ive been using kazaa for a year and a half now and no problems with it whatsoever. hasn't hurt my computer or anything. used it to download a library of over 3,000 songs and 40 full length movies as well as many programs and updates... you can't beat getting a full version of norton antivirus 2003 for nothing i don't see what the problem with it is that you guys are talking about.... please do elaborate
Ive been using kazza light for the last few months and have had no problems. Im having major problems with my at&t cable conection. I think cable companies are worse than car salesmen. I wish that when people upload songs that they name them the right names. Come on what up with this. I downloaded w.c.mcalls convoy and it came out as Charlie danials.
I had been using winmx for a while now. Not impressed Download time was real slow. I have cable and I was lucky to get 8kbs/sec. Just started using Kazaa, seems 2 work good. Don't understand what the problem is with pop ups. They don't seem that anoying to me.
Gov't will never shut down Kazaa, winmx. From what I understand, Napster had a central server that could be shut down, the new ones don't.
i use kazaa, i download music and movies. i know its scumwear but i really dont care. i like it for the music and dvd movies (dont have a dvd player and my vcr is buted)
I used to have Kazaa, but now use a thing called "Grokster". It seems to run smoother than Kazaa, I really am not sure how else to put it. Only drawback is out here in the sticks we still use the phoneline connection. Downloads can run for hours. If there is something better for downloading music, could someone buzz me with the info? Grokster works well, good file selection, but if there is something better............but then I am not a tech guy at all, I can barely type.
Kazaa is good , EVERYTHING is there if you search right . The only problem I`ve found is that the songs are mostly 128 KBs (quality)or less . I dont know why that is either . Just as easy to rip a disc at 192 KBs than 128 . I`ve even seen music there at 64 KBs . Yuk . Its great for movies , we are getting movies on there before they hit the theatres . Pump them out to the 36 " TV and invite some friends over and have a few beers and watch it before anyone else does . Gotta love the Net`
if you are looking for a service where you can search for higher quality songs, check out audiogalaxy. i used to use that and you could find very high quality versions of just about every song you tried searching for. i dont even know if that service is still online so you'd have to check on it.
