Scott, which years of the 7.3 did you find were better for fuel economy? I had an 89 F350 7.3 dually that did about 12 mpg and a friend had a 89 F250 4X4 that got around 21 mpg.
Bouts, how much difference did the mods make on your truck`s mpg?

Sounds cool, I may lean back to a 7.3 because all in all i do want better mileage, and I can always add mods.

Morris my dads 91 250 7.3 diesel got around 25 mpg. That was highway, and it had an aftermarket CTS turbo on it.

From what I understand from reading the PSD forums is that if you chip the 7.3 it is close to the 6.0 for hp and torque. I haven't given mine a real workout yet but I towed my friends 25' trailer and could hardly notice it back there.

No matter what I've tried it stays at 10 empty and 5 towing. Hit 3 towing once against the wind.

3? lol wow. Colin, I have heard that too about the 7.3. It makes me curious though what happens when you chip a 6.0, with the exception of the problems chipping the earlier ones!

Dad had 3 Ford diesels
91 7.3
95 7.3 PowerStroke
99 7.3 PowerStroke
All of them got around 21.

He now drives an 02 Dodge (duck and hide) with the 5.9 Cummins and gets 24.

I can`t imagine a 7.3 down to 3 mpg unless there was something seriously wrong with it!

Strong is nice too. Its too bad they didnt make a truck that was strong as a bull, and got 40 mpg

So Ford needs to make a F-350 6.0L Diesel Hybrid? So it will run on the electric until the diesel engine warms up. You probably could get close to 30 mpg with this setup "unloaded".

the small hybrid cars have $6000 of batteries stuffed into them

that would take $12,000 worth of batteries ... or so I would think

thats alot of driving...
