Scott, which years of the 7.3 did you find were better for fuel economy? I had an 89 F350 7.3 dually that did about 12 mpg and a friend had a 89 F250 4X4 that got around 21 mpg.
Bouts, how much difference did the mods make on your truck`s mpg?
From what I understand from reading the PSD forums is that if you chip the 7.3 it is close to the 6.0 for hp and torque. I haven't given mine a real workout yet but I towed my friends 25' trailer and could hardly notice it back there.
3? lol wow. Colin, I have heard that too about the 7.3. It makes me curious though what happens when you chip a 6.0, with the exception of the problems chipping the earlier ones!
[QUOTE=preppypyro]3? lol wow. Colin, I have heard that too about the 7.3. QUOTE]This is about a 400 motor in Bouts21 truck not a 7.3
[:Bouts21 No matter what I've tried it stays at 10 empty and 5 towing. Hit 3 towing once against the wind.]
I can`t imagine a 7.3 down to 3 mpg unless there was something seriously wrong with it!
Wow but still 23 mpg is pretty good ill have to figure out my mileage when i leave for Estevan next weekend i have a feeling mine aint going to be no dam 23 mpg that 5.8 liter needs a lot of fuel
I've been getting 12-14 out of mine 2100rpm down the highway.
I havent driven my 79 enough to know MPG... all ive done is drive around my 2 acres, to move a shed and tear down a barn... and all I can say is it is bad on gas... but then its strong like a bulldozer... 6 of one, half dozen of another
So Ford needs to make a F-350 6.0L Diesel Hybrid? So it will run on the electric until the diesel engine warms up. You probably could get close to 30 mpg with this setup "unloaded".
