I have a dual wiper linkage that appears to be for a '53 up according to the illustrations at www.f100.com Can this be used on a '50 F1? Thanks, I'm new at this.
The cowl is already drilled for the passenger side and has what I would call a plug in it. It's painted body color and looks like a tear-drop. I haven't looked behind the dash at the backside of it yet, but it does look removable.
My '50 F-6 has factory wipers on both sides and the linkage looks nothing like the linkage shown at www.f100.com. They show an electric conversion, whereas the factory one works with the vacuum system with the vacuum motor mounted at the driver's side of the windshield. My advice is give it a try, if it fits, use it, if it almost fits, tweak it to make it work, and if it just plain don't fit, well, it don't fit.
I am planning on converting mine to electric and will use a wiper motor from a '95 F-150 just because I have one to work with and will make my own linkage. It looks like it will be a fairly simple job.
My 54 has factory dual electrics. Im wondering if the F1 and early F-100 share similar parts?
BTW, vacuum was standard in mine, the electric was optional.
My '49 has dual vacuum wipers which appear to have been factory. My 48-54 parts book implies duals were required on trucks sold in Washington State, Virginia and District of Columbia and I believe mine was originally sold Skamania, WA., up the Columbia from Portland. The 48-52 wipers had the vacuum motor on the driver side wiper. The 53-54 wipers had the vacuum or electric motor in the center of the truck. I just replaced mine and I bet the 53-54 location is a lot easier to work on!
