regeared my 89 last year with 4.10 gears...also installed an Auburn electric locker in the rear and a Detroit LS in the front diff.
Really like the whole set-up, and the electric rear locker works great - just throw on the switch at any speed to adtivate.
I used the wires in the harness that activated the rear window defogger (no longer used) for the rear locker and mounted the locker's switch on the dash where the defogger's switch was located.
hows it going. I got the arb in my 79 the only way to go. Locker means to physicaly lock the side gears together thereby making the axle shafts turn the same speed no matter what. ARBs let you unlock the the side gears for best street driving and to aid in cornering. I put mine in to keep the turning radius down and i have installed cutting brakes so i can lock one rear wheel and skid around it using the other three.
yes excellent idea. But what are you plowing with, broncos are little short and the frt springs a little soft for heavy plowing. Would be alighright w/small plow 6ft or so
If go w/locker arb(best choice) make sure to spend a little extra on a strange 3rd member or youll find out the expensive way the pinion support bearing doesn't like lockers and pushing hard.(I found out the hard way 2 used 1 new in bb f-150)
I don't have any experience driving a locker in the snow/ice, but I've heard that it is very dangerous.. the back end will step out without warning. I don't think you'd really need a locker for plowing, its more of an offroading thing as far as broncos are concerned.
If you want to use your bronco for plowing and off-road try an Auburn Gear ECTED differential it acts as a limited slip differential when off(good for snow/Ice) and when energized A full Locker
If you look at axle from the rear and it has a cover with bolts showing its a 8.8 if it is a 9" the front(where the driveshaft mounts) will have bolts and the backside will be solid. The 9" has a removable third member.Hope this helps.
