the problem is the radio. my neighbore killed his battery, along with the radio it seems. i figured some code or fault came up, so i looked in the owners manual, and nothing. now i shoved mine in there because i have an alpine system. But mine dont seem to work either. i really dont have much time to trouble shoot right now, and wont till after new years. he doesn't seem to care too much about it, but wants to have it fixed eventually. He wants me to ask around before he takes it to a shop, and see if anyone else had this problem. it's a 96, with a radio and casset, no autoset button. i dodn't give any of the leads test for current. but if anyone could help me out here. Every other electrical system works fine, and no fuses blown. the radio hasn't worked worked since the battery origianally died.
I'm gonna post this in the electrical or sound section.
a wiring guide of the wires going to the radio would help, if anyone has one.
check the fuses, there is a radio fuse. if not run a new direct power wire to the battery, (little cutin and splicing with a few wires and your good to go,as long as head unit aint blown) you can due all that with the radio in your hands.
i check the fuses, and they are fine, but i'll tell him to wire them off the battery.
i find i hard to believe that both headunits are bad, soly because, mine worked fine when i took it out, and thats why i saved it. but it's not impossible
Check to make sure the wire from the ignition switch, which tells it when to come on (only on ON or ACCESSORY), is good, and no blown fuse if there is one in-line.
Voltmeter the connecting plugs with various different key positions, make sure the ground is good, make sure the constant is 12V at all times and the switched is 12V with the igniton on or on accessory.
good point willie, fuse in back of radio, check that, pop your hood, ground it, and then use a small power wire, test it right there. if it works then you have a short in a wire somewhere, at that point i would just run a direct power wire through the firehole, and your good to go. its a little extra customizing yourself but imo its better than trying to find a short somewhere,
