I am looking to purchase an exhaust for my 2000 f250. I am trying to decide on a 5 inch system or a 4 inch system. For those of you who have a 5 inch system did you notice any decrease in bottom end power or did it stay about the same?
I also thought i heard somewhere the with a system like a 5 inch that you could have turbo problems from the turbo not getting a chance to heat up enough and staying to cold? is that true or not? Still trying to learn a few things about these trucks. Any info would help. Thanks.
I noticed a very very slight lag in low end power but that will be more than made up for with a chip. The turbo will get plenty of heat with any either 4 or 5" exhaust.
And with a 5" system you can join the Cannon Club.
Hi, welcome to FTE. All you really ever need for these trucks is a 4" exhaust. It flows plenty well, and 5" is just overkill. It is basically for the sound, and the looks people get with a huge sewer pipe under your truck. 5" sounds better than 4", trust me, and dual 6" exhaust sounds even better. Muffler or not, they sound very good. No muffler is even better, however you will have the shreik of the jet engine once the valve closes in the exhaust to restrict airflow for quicker warmup times. Oh, and an exhaust system won't hurt the time it takes for the engine to warm up, just the valve actuating will be alot louder.
I just ordered a 5 incher from MKO diesel
Tons on here have it without any problems. I remember reading a post of how it makes the turbo spool a little laggy but nothing major or to cause damage
maybe its time you manned up and joined the "cannon club"
tholt34,
i have the 4 in. and have no problems, and I have an increase in bottom in grunt, combined with other mods.---------
as for decrease in bottom end power on a 5 in. , i wouldnt think so, as the back preassure at the hot side of the turbo is still there.
Your just able to expel the increased exhaust preassure faster,( if chiped)
as it was told to me. you really dont need the 5 unless your pushig 400 horse. other wise the 4 will do for most average moded 7.3s.
BUT THE CANON CLUB DOES SOUND COOL THOUGH
Thanks for all the info. I was looking either at one of Mark's 5 inch systems or an MBRP system. I know in the pic of Mark's system, is the muffler a 5 inch core like the MBRP system or no? As far as a chip, i have a Edge Evolution programmer already and a K and N drop in filter and the truck had already been straight piped and turned out under the cab about where the muffler was originally.
Any body have an sound clips of some 4 inch and 5 inch systems?
The K&N's tend to let to much fine dust through if not maintaned excellently and fine dust and turbo's do not like each other plus the stock airbox is prone to leaks letting through unfiltered air.
Thanks for the info on the air filter. I think i am going to go buy that kwik filter and do that instal. My one question is when u take the airbox out, what do you do with the temp sensor that is mounted in the airbox?

I did this. You need to extend the wiring harness for the sensor about 10-12 inches so it will reach.
Is it necessary? I noticed on guzzle's instructions he put filter restrictor in the end of the filter. also what size pipe was used to connect the filter to the intake tube?
