i have a 1993 ford f-150 with a 302 and an e40d transmission. i recently have been having problems with my transmission so i ended up taking it out and replacing it with a rebuilt transmission and a new torque converter. i have everything hooked up. i have 16qts tranny fluid in it. My problem is now. is that when i put it in any gear, (reverse, and any forwards) i have no motion. i put it in park the park works, and i put it in neutral i can push the truck. But I also have had a performance chip on my computer for a good while. But when i start my truck up to try to see if the truck tranny will move i notice a check engine light staying on. Me and the transmission man are having problems trying to figure why its not moving. he said that i should have a reverse even if I pull the computer wires from tranny. but i dont. I also have effecient fluid flow goin to the cooler. I do not have a scanner to read the code, and im not very good at reading blink codes. i cant really take my truck anywhere cause of the no motion problem to have the codes checked out. Transfer case is also good. anyone have any ideas what is wrong?
Without the computer connected to the trans you should have reverse and 4th gear.
Do you have a pressure gauge? I think the next step is to see what pressures you have. There is a test port on the driver's side of the trans, near the front, just above the pan. Put a gauge in there and measure the pressure at idle in park, reverse, and drive. You need a gauge that can read 0-300 PSI.
Well if nothin is happening in forward or reverse there is nothing getting to the shift solenoids. I would get whatever information you can about reading those codes. Because that check engine light may be whats not letting the transmission solenoids shift and such some possible odd way (anyting can happen). But I think the map sensor is linked to the transmission also I could be wrong though. Check over everything make sure connections are hooked up securely. Good luck
2nd, 4th, and reverse will work in a good transmission without any electronics hooked up. If the transmission will not allow the truck to move in any shift lever position there is a mechanical or hydraulic problem with the transmission.
did he put the input shaft in the trans, was the converter new or rebuilt?ive seen people in a hurry and forget it.if you have line pressure then id start looking at something like that
As I am not familiar with the E4OD as I am with say a C4 I would think converter or pump. Check pump pressure as mentioned before. If you used the old converter It may well be all that was wrong with the first tranny.
