my brothers escape is running terribly, a week ago he replaced his O2 sensors which had been bad for a while (according to the computer), now the truck runs even worse. It idles rough, and barely goes over 20 mph. The computer read out now says it is an air problem, and a misfire on the 4-5 cylinder. My brother also scribbled something about lean bank? Anyone have any ideas?
130,000 miles, bought the truck used a few years ago with 112,000 miles on it. This is the first problem the truck has ever had, so as far as i know it was well maintained.
I've heard of misfires eventually clogging the catalysts. A plugged exhaust system will cause a lack of power. You can hook up a vacuum guage to the the intake and watch how fast the needle returns to normal after revving the engine. If it rebounds slowly, the catalyst may be plugged.
130K and lack of records prior to 112K. Time for a complete tune up. Replace plugs, I think there is an ohm value for the COPs to measure and compare accross. I do not know that value, maybe someone here does. Check all sensors, replace or clean as needed. I would also do all the fluids and relplace all filters. Do a fuel pressure test.
my brother took the truck to the mechanic yesterday, and after stopping at a stop sign on a slight grade, the truck would not move. The rpms wouldn't go up, the truck just would not move although the engine was running (barely). Curious to find out what the problems are, although the tune up and MAF sensor sounds like it could be the problem from what you have all described
Mechanic called today with the laundry list of problems, from what my brother told me the mechanic says his cats are shot to the point that they are sending exhaust back through the egr, the egr is shot, 2 bad coils, as well as a bunch of sensors and other stuff he didn't get into. A huge bill right in time for christmas, go figure
